Bill Ramey is Judging the New Ventures Competition at Texas A&M University on May 18, 2017

Aimed at promoting the commercialization of emerging technology, the competition recognizes companies with high-growth potential and provides seed funding to help them effectively execute their ideas and advance product development….  The Texas A&M New Ventures Competition is open to all Texas-based companies seeking to bring a new or enhanced technology to the marketplace. Participant companies must be technology- or science-focused independent ventures in the pre-seed/seed, start-up or early growth stages.”

Bill Ramey is judging the Rice Business Plan Competition from April 6-8!

I am tremendously grateful that I will again judge the Rice Business Plan Competition.  The Rice Business Plan Competition is the world’s richest and largest graduate-level student startup competition. It is hosted and organized by the Rice Alliance for Technology and entrepreneurship, which is Rice University’s internationally-recognized initiative devoted to the support of entrepreneurship, and the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business.

Texas A&M Law School’s Law Review Will Host an October Symposium Regarding Agriculture, Intellectual Property, and Feeding the World in the 21st Century

On October 28, 2016, the Law Review of Texas A&M Law Review will host a symposium regarding agriculture, intellectual property, and feeding the world in the 21st century. Legal aspects of developing agricultural technologies, such plant and animal breeding genetics, will be among the topics discussed. The speakers will include President-Elect of the American Agricultural Law Association, law-school professions, and others knowledgeable in these fields. USPTO Offers Intellectual-Property Education

On November 15–17, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will provide training on examination practice and procedure as part of the USPTO’s our Stakeholder Training on Examination Practice and Procedure (STEPP) program. The three-day course is offered to the public, is intended for those who have recently passed the Patent Bar, and will be held on the USPTO’s Alexandria, Va. campus. However, tomorrow, October 5, is the last day to sign up for the program.

The program will be led by USPTO trainers, using materials developed for training patent examiners and other USPTO employees. More information, including a proposed upcoming course schedule, is available here.

USPTO to Celebrate Fifth Anniversary of America Invents Act

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is co-sponsoring an event to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the America Invents Act (AIA) on September 21, 2016, from 3:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. (EST) in the Rayburn House Office Building, in Washington, D.C. The event will feature remarks from USPTO leadership and Congressional representatives on the AIA’s impact to the U.S. intellectual property system.

The event will also include a panel discussion with leaders from the IP community discussing the impact of the AIA on businesses and communities of all sizes and next steps for the U.S. IP system.

Firm Attorney Now Licensed in New York

Ramey & Schwaller congratulates one of its attorneys, Harry Laxton Jr., on becoming licensed to practice law in the state of New York. He was sworn into the New York Bar earlier this week in New York’s capital, Albany. Mr. Laxton has litigated in courts in several states, including Texas, New York, California, Virginia, and Delaware.

Bill Ramey Judges Rice Business Plan Competition

Ramey & Schwaller’s Bill Ramey was invited by Rice University to judge the 2016 Rice Business Plan.  The Rice Business Plan Competition is the world’s richest and largest graduate-level student startup competition. It is hosted and organized by the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship, which is Rice University’s internationally-recognized initiative devoted to the support of entrepreneurship, and the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business. This is the 16th year for the competition. In that time, it has grown from nine teams competing for $10,000 in prize money in 2001, to 42 teams from around the world competing for more than $1.5 million in cash and prizes.  The field of 42 was selected from 750 applicants.
