Jijun “Jim” Xiao,Ph.D., is a Technical Advisor of Ramey & Schwaller, LLP., and can read, write, and speak Mandarin chinese fluently. Prior to joining Ramey & Schwaller, LLP, Jim was a patent examiner at the States Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) of the People’s Republic of China, P.R.C., for 9 years, where he examined patent applications in the electric, electronic and computer engineering areas. There, he researched prior art using SIPO’s searching system to determine whether the application complied with patent laws and rules such as novelty and creativity. Jim is experienced in drafting mechanical applications, and is also extremely familiar with patent policies, procedures and SIPO guidelines. This experience ensures our firm can provide clients with a high level of expertise and knowledge preparing and prosecuting patents before the P.R.C.’s Intellectual Property Office.

Jim also has 6 years of teaching and research experience from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, acquired between 1997 and 2003. The courses Jim taught include: Electrical Machinery, Power Electronics, Fundamentals of Mono-Chip Computers, Microcomputer Control Technology and Principle of Automatic Control; His field of research included optimal design of electrical machines, maximum power point tracking in the solar power system, dryer control system and motor speed control system.

Jim and his wife, Liu Yang have one son in middle school, He and his family enjoy reading- - particularly Chinese history.
