Melissa D. Schwaller, Ph.D. is a name partner with Ramey & Schwaller, LLP.  She is a registered patent attorney whose practice is focused on patent preparation and prosecution, patent litigation, trademark prosecution, freedom-to-operate analysis, and opinion drafting.

Among the technologies with which Dr. Schwaller has experience are energy, including oilfield equipment and compositions, solar energy and biofuels; chemistry, including polymers; mechanical devices, including industrial equipment; medical devices; nanotechnology; and the life sciences, including biotechnology, biochemistry, protein chemistry, biologics, molecular biology, cell biology, genetically modified organisms, immunology, small molecules, pharmaceuticals and agricultural science. She also has experience obtaining plant patents and plant variety protection.

Melissa has previously practiced as a patent agent and attorney with law firms and as in-house counsel.

Melissa is an associate editor for patstats.org, a patent litigation statistics service provided by the University of Houston Law Center Institute for Intellectual Property and Information Law.

Melissa earned her doctorate in biochemistry from Baylor College of Medicine. Her thesis work focused on protein folding and her doctoral dissertation was titled “The Mechanism of Protein Disulfide Isomerase-Catalyzed Disulfide Isomerization.”

Melissa and her husband, Sean Brady, are raising two sons and spend their free time involved in the Boy Scouts of America, hiking, and camping. Melissa is a member of New Hope Lutheran Church and enjoys mixed martial arts and running.
