Bill Ramey was invited to join the Board of the Aggie Angel Network effective September 2017.  This role will include speaking engagements, member and investor meetings, and an opportunity to provide professional insight to promising entrepreneurs in a variety of areas Mr. Ramey is experienced in.

The Aggie Angel Network is a network of accredited investors who look to invest in promising businesses in return for stock in the companies.  The AAN is actively seeking investment opportunities with great startup companies.  While a financial investment in these new ventures is a major tool to keep progression in forward motion, the AAN also provides connections, affiliations, market knowledge, mentoring and operational excellence to upcoming entrepreneurs.

Congratulations to MedPatent

Ramey & Schwaller wishes to congratulate its client Vinay Badhwar on issuance of European Patent Number 2563238 titled ‘AUTOMATIC SUTURING APPARATUS’.  The patent is an automatic suturing apparatus wherein triggers activate suturing and securing of the tissue of a patient.

Court of Appeals denies Fidelity Security Life Insurance Company’s Motion for Rehearing

Ramey & Schwaller clients Pension Advisory Group and Paul Hinson are pleased to announce that the Court of Appeals for the 13th District of Texas Denied Fidelity Security Life Insurance Company and David Smith’s Motion for a Rehearing, clearing the way for a trial on claims that Defendants defamed Plaintiffs in the conduct of their business.  Barring other dilatory maneuvers, the action will go back to the 343rd Judicial District Court in Aransas County, Texas for trial before the Honorable Judge Janna Whatley under cause number A-12-0179-CV-C.

Bill Ramey is Judging the New Ventures Competition at Texas A&M University on May 18, 2017

Participant companies must be technology- or science-focused independent ventures in the pre-seed/seed, start-up or early growth stages.”

Bill Ramey is judging the Rice Business Plan Competition from April 6-8!

I am tremendously grateful that I will again judge the Rice Business Plan Competition.  The Rice Business Plan Competition is the world’s richest and largest graduate-level student startup competition. It is hosted and organized by the Rice Alliance for Technology and entrepreneurship, which is Rice University’s internationally-recognized initiative devoted to the support of entrepreneurship, and the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business.

Ramey & Schwaller client Julian Olivares’ copyright infringement claim is going to trial!

On September 30, 2016, the District Court in the Middle District of North Carolina denied The University of Chicago, Margaret Greer and Elizabeth Rhodes’ Motion for Summary Judgment as to Olivares’ clam of copyright infringement, deciding that a jury would hear the case.  Trial is now set for April of 2017.  Bill Ramey of Ramey & Schwaller is quoted as saying “We are very happy for our client and we look forward to telling the jury how The University of Chicago, Rhodes and Greer copied our client’s novel.”

Julián Olivares is the creator of “Novelas amorosas y ejemplares, by María de Zayas y Sotomayor,” a critical edition of and a transformation and interpretation of Novelas amorosas y ejemplares. Notwithstanding that Olivares’ book contained a copyright notice Margaret Greer and Elizabeth Rhodes translated and the University of Chicago published at least nine stories copied from Olivares’ book.  More information about the case can be found at Olivares v. University of Chicago et al., pending in the Middle District of North Carolina under Cause No. 1:15-cv-713.

Bill Ramey Judges Rice Business Plan Competition

Ramey & Schwaller’s Bill Ramey was invited by Rice University to judge the 2016 Rice Business Plan.  The Rice Business Plan Competition is the world’s richest and largest graduate-level student startup competition. It is hosted and organized by the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship, which is Rice University’s internationally-recognized initiative devoted to the support of entrepreneurship, and the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business. This is the 16th year for the competition. In that time, it has grown from nine teams competing for $10,000 in prize money in 2001, to 42 teams from around the world competing for more than $1.5 million in cash and prizes.  The field of 42 was selected from 750 applicants.
