Ramey & Schwaller client inventors honored at recent ceremony

Firm client inventors David H. Byrne, Ph.D. and Natalie A. Anderson, Ph.D. of Texas A&M AgriLife Research were honored with awards at the Texas A&M Patent and Innovation 2018 Awards Luncheon on May 17, 2018 for fourteen plant patents received on peaches and nectarines in 2017.  Ramey & Schwaller prosecuted the fourteen plant patents.  Ramey & Schwaller was represented by Melissa Schwaller, Harry Laxton, and Jim Xiao at the Luncheon.

2018 Texas A&M New Ventures Comptetition

Dr. Melissa Schwaller will proudly represent the firm at the 2018 New Ventures Competition on May 17, 2018.  This will be the second consecutive year Ramey & Schwaller will send one of its partners to judge this event.  Not only does the firm participate in judging the competition we also sponsor the event, giving a ten thousand dollar donation of Intellectual Property Legal Services which Dr. Schwaller will present to the winner of the New Ventures Competition.

Firm Partner Melissa Schwaller to speak on IP at AUTM

Schwaller will give her presentation at this years Annual AUTM meeting beginning February 18, 2018.  The Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) is a nonprofit organization which has more than 3,300 members worldwide representing managers of intellectual property, universities, research institutions, as well as numerous business and government organizations from around the world.

Paul Hinson Will Get his Trial Against Fidelity Security Life Insurance Company and its Executive David Smith for Defamation and Conspiracy

On January 26, 2018, the Texas Supreme Court Denied Fidelity Security Life Insurance Company and its Executive David Smith’s attempt to prevent Paul Hinson from going to trial on his defamation and conspiracy claims in Rockport, Texas.  After six years, Hinson finally will be allowed to tell a jury how he was defamed by Fidelity Security Life Insurance Company and its Executive David Smith when they falsely accused Hinson of forging a name on a life insurance policy.  The trial team at Ramey & Schwaller is eager to assist Hinson in telling his story.

Ramey & Schwaller Completes Successful Trademark Opposition on Behalf of Client Project Apis m.

Ramey & Schwaller successfully opposed the registration of Ojai Natural Foods, Inc.’s trademark application for “Seeds for Bees”, application no. 87/292184. Project Apis m. v. Ojai Natural Foods, Inc., TTAB Opp. No. 91236690 (Jan. 8, 2018). Our client Project Apis m. (PAm) uses its trademark mark “Seeds for Bees” for its program to promote collaboration within the scientific, research, and provider communities to achieve advances in bee and soil health and bee forage described at https://www.projectapism.org/seeds-for-bees-home.html. This result allows PAm to continue using its senior “Seeds for Bees” trademark without risk of confusion in the marketplace.

 

Project Apis m. funds and directs research to enhance the health and vitality of honey bee colonies while improving crop production. Its name comes from Apis mellifera, the scientific name for the honey bee. www.projectapism.org

Congratulations to TRC Services

Ramey & Schwaller wishes to congratulate its client TRC Services, Inc. on issuance of U.S. Patent Number 9,840,893 titled Inspection Methods for Reprocessing Non-metallic Oilfield Tools on December 12, 2017. The patent relates to the treatment of non-metallic sucker rods, made of metal, particularly tom the method of reclamation of used rods already used in the mechanical deep-pumping extraction of oil.  The method of remanufacturing of standard length rods includes subjecting used non-metallic sucker rods to a destructive pull test.

Ramey & Schwaller files new lawsuit against Repro-Med Systems, Inc.

Ramey & Schwaller has filed a new lawsuit in the United States District Court – Eastern District of Texas alleging infringement of U.S. Patent No. 9,808,576 for our client EMED Technologies Corporation.  The technology is related to devices and methods for protecting a user from a sharp tip of a medical needle. In an embodiment, a device includes a central body portion, a medical needle having a sharp tip, a pair of wings in attachment to the central body portion, and a hook-and-loop fastening system disposed on at least one of the wings, and configured to selectively attach the wings together with the medical needle positioned between the wing so as to protect a user from the sharp tip of the medical needle.  In another embodiment, a method includes withdrawing a sharp tip of a medical needle from a patient, closing a pair of wings with the medical needle positioned between the wings, and fastening the wings together with the medical needle positioned between the wings so as to protect the user from the sharp tip of the medical needle.

Ramey & Schwaller files new lawsuits against AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile

Ramey & Schwaller has filed new lawsuits in United States District Court- Eastern District of Texas alleging infringement of the claims of U.S. Pat. No. 8,977,284; U.S. Pat. No. 9,510,320; U.S. Pat. No. 9,642,024, and U.S. Pat. No. 9,549,388 for its client Traxcell Technologies, LLC.  The technology involved is for a wireless network, a tuning system in which mobile phones using the network are routinely located.
